3. Race | Justice | Safety | Policing > Let's Talk, MHK!
Do experiences of justice and law enforcement interactions differ for community members of
different races and ethnicities in Manhattan? March 29, 2021
4. MHK- Equity and Inclusion in Education:
Sharing Our Lived Experiences in Teaching and Learning
How well are we serving our local population and historically oppressed groups? Community members tell their stories.
September 27, 2021
Check out our Youtube channel for small group conversations with local leaders, professionals and residents.
We are Listening to Local Voices.
A panel of Manhattan residents will describe their connections to the community and personal experiences on each of the planned topics. All attendees then have the opportunity to share their own experiences in, and concerns about, MHK in small, facilitated, group conversations. Light refreshments and casual conversation conclude each evening (at in-person events).
“A healthy Manhattan is an inclusive Manhattan.”
In 2017, Community Conversations on Race and Reconciliation initially focused specifically on
the status of race relations in MHK.
The forth-coming programs seek to build connections between all of the diverse populations within
Manhattan. We hope conversations like these will become part of daily life in our community -
leading to deeper understanding and cohesive action toward well-being for all.

For a productive dialogue, participants agree at the outset to some fundamentals.
Our Conversation Ground Rules are a cornerstone to which we can return when conversation gets derailed.
These ground rules can be amended - with consensus by all participants.
Constructive conversations allow for passion and emotional heat. Hearing the emotion is part of developing compassion and understanding.
